As the new president of Los Angeles Community College District (LACC), I want to thank you for this important endorsement. Our Board of Trustees and LACC staff have worked since 2007 to make our district one that is open and inclusive, where our students are ready for college and the workforce and where LACC is a leader in the region.
I would first like to thank the Board of Trustees for this endorsement, and for trusting me to move the district for the benefit of our students, workforce and parents.
I am running to take the position LACC President. I am committed to the importance of higher education, and believe it is the key to prosperity for California.
Over the past few decades, California has seen a rise in the price of tuition and other college costs. Many students cannot afford to go to college, and those who can are working more hours and taking on more debt to make ends meet while attending a lower quality college that is more expensive and less challenging than high quality community colleges. Many students and their families have had enough—they are looking for a community college or community college district whose mission is to educate young people as quickly and as affordably as possible. I believe that when LACC delivers this message, and brings its unique strengths to the table, we will meet that challenging goal.
