Serena Williams hails Tiger Woods’ influence as she continues her US Open run
Serena Williams hails the influence of ‘one of the all-time best’ Tiger Woods with the US Open champion taking to Instagram to discuss her victory over Simona Halep.
Williams, whose four-match winning streak comes to an end and ends with a first-round exit in the semis, claimed victory with a stunning performance in her final match.
The top-seeded Williams has won the past two US Open titles (2013 and 2019) and now claims back-to-back titles after winning the 2018 edition.
Williams went on to claim her first title since the 2014 edition with victory over Halep, who lost the first of her career finals to Serena last year in the US Open semi-finals.
Williams said: “I’m happy. I won the (2018) US Open. I feel like my game has gotten better and better.
“I’m at a place that I like, I’m at peace, and for me it’s a dream. I haven’t won one US Open, and I’m happy for the last time now.
“I’ve been a little in the shadow of some other champion, and now this is my time to prove that I’m not. I’m not.”
